Welcome to the Howard High School Advanced Placement
web site. Visiting this site is the first step in a challenging, yet rewarding journey into Advanced Placement, otherwise known
as AP.

Overview
The AP program at Howard High is designed to challenged
students. AP students participate in a more challenging
curriculum and experience a greater level of academic
discipline. AP Courses are designed for higher-level academic instruction & are an introduction to and preparation for a
college education.

History of Advanced Placement
It was initially a program implemented by elite prep schools &
three Ivy League universities (Harvard, Princeton, & Yale). The Program was designed to test higher lever high school students for possible credit for college courses. Today over 3,000 colleges/universites in 200 countries accept the AP score.

How to Become AP (click)
A natural feeder system for AP courses is enrollment in GT
courses. AP courses are opened to all the students, but it is
highly recommended that students and parents consult the
student's teacher in the discipline area of interest. An AP course requires additional time, energy, and preparation than GT courses.
